Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Gules, a pale Or fretty of the first.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Gold scroll inscribed PRO PROVINCIA ET IMPERIO in Black letters.

Symbolism
Red and yellow are used for Artillery organizations.  The red fretty lines on the yellow allude to the sky criss-crossed by antiaircraft fire, thus simulating a net through which no enemy aircraft can penetrate.  The yellow pale also represents the Golden Gate.  The motto translates to For State and Country.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 19 May 1952.  It was amended to correct the motto on 27 August 1952.  It was rescinded on 16 June 1961.
